RAM 1500 EcoDiesel Leads in Efficiency

For those of us who are unaware of the EPA’s role in the fuel economy process, the EPA is responsible for providing official fuel efficiency ratings for all vehicles sold in the Unites States. These ratings have begun to mater more and more over the years for the pickup truck vehicle segment. For some manufacturers it has been difficult to find the right balance of fuel economy and power output. Fortunately Ram trucks has found an alternative solution that has put them in the proverbial driver’s seat in terms of power and fuel economy. The new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has garnered some serious praise for the Ram Truck brand and even the folks at Motor Trend are beginning to take notice.

Motor Trend takes it upon itself to test vehicles for efficiency while utilizing testing criteria that differs slightly from what the industry norms are. Although the EPA has not as of yet provided efficiency ratings for the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, you can be sure that when they do those ratings will become the benchmark by which all of Diesel powered pickup trucks are measured.

Although there is no ratings release from the EPA Motor Trend has run the diesel Ram 1500 through its paces. After testing concluded the auto publisher found that the Ram 1500 achieved 28 miles per gallon on the highway, which is of course an unofficial estimate of the vehicles fuel economy. However, that is quite an impressive number for a pickup truck and something that we hope is reflected in the official EPA estimates. Motor Trend went on to discuss how well the diesel 1500 drove with its V-6 feeling more like a V-8 that was capable of towing up to 9,200 pounds.

Not too shabby.
