Ram Adds Fuel-Efficient Diesel Engine to Ram 1500

In the tuck world we find that diesel engines are often associated with the heavy-duty work that is done in construction sites and farms. However, thanks to Ram that is no longer the case with the new Ram 1500 hitting the market with an optional fuel-efficient diesel engine. This 'light-duty' engine will be the first that has been seen on the American truck market in years.

The director of the Ram Trucks brand, Bob Hegbloom discussed the diesel engine, saying, "The diesel has the capability of a V-8 with the fuel economy of a V-6." He also notes that though the diesel model is priced at $2,860 above the gasoline engine, it makes up for this price in a very short time. Hegbloom explains,  that this happens " In most cases, under a year. . . It's a heck of a value."1

As of now the EPA has yet to release any official estimates on the fuel efficiency of this new diesel engine that is aptly named the EcoDiesel. However, we can provide the same engine's ratings when it is equipped with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. When powering the Jeep Grand Cherokee, this diesel engine is capable of achieving 30 mpg on the highway. As a comparison the gasoline version of the same engine is only capable of reaching 22 mpg on the highway. Surely with that kind of efficiency it makes sense that a diesel would be a more efficient option.

This new diesel powered Ram 1500 is planned to be a part of our new Ram truck inventory very soon. If you have additional questions about this new truck and its capabilities feel free to visit our dealership located at 345 Merrick Road in Amityville, NY.
